I Adore Margaret Rutherford

There have been a few of the black and white Miss Marple films on the tellybox recently. I bloomin love Margaret Rutherford who stars in them as Jane Marple. I have the films on DVD but when they're on I have to watch them. Is that just me, or do any of my blogging chums do the same?

Anyhoo I have just found a clip of Margaret in a film I have never seen, apparently she won an oscar for her role as the Duchess of Brighton. For my overseas chums, Brighton is in Sussex.

  1. I have seen several iterations of Miss Marple, each excellent in their way. Margaret Rutherford was wonderful in anything she appeared in.

    1. She was wasn’t she? One of her best was Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit.

  2. Not only did I not know Brighton was in Sussex, I do not know who Margaret Rutherford is, and neither have I heard of Miss Marple. But, after watching that clip, I am certainly going to find out more! Love it! She so reminded me of myself digging through her bag and pulling out useless, random, items but not what I am searching for LOL. ~Robin~ (TheCrankyCrow)

    1. Miss Marple is one of Agatha Christie's heroines. There have been many, many incarnations but Margaret Rutherford is my favourite. If you can get hold of a copy of Blithe Spirit starring Margaret as Madame Arcati you will love it, it's supreme.xx

  3. She was perfect as Miss Marple, a great character. I watched a documentary about her once, I think it was on Amazon, very interesting and sad.

  4. Although I do love Margaret Rutherford, Joan Hickson is my preferred Miss Marple. That photo of Margaret Rutherford is priceless, though, and I'd still watch one of her Miss Marple films if it's on the telly! xxx

    1. The black and white image is from a film called Murder She Said. And a younger Joan Hickson (my second favourite Miss Marple) is also in the film playing a housekeeper. That pleases me greatly.
