Keeping Busy With Some Upcycling Projects

I mentioned a wee while back that I was going to tackle the two small ugly orange pine side tables, bought from my local chazza for a fiver. Perfect size for little drinks tables but oh so offensive to the eye. Well, I'm pleased to say they are finished.

Not a lot of outlay either. As you know dear reader, I don't normally buy expensive materials for my upcycling projects, I just rootle around in the (wo)man shed and find some suitable bits and bobs. The paint I used for this project was a half price bargain purchased many moons ago. Luckily, about a quarter of the paint was left in the tin. It had thick skin covering it, but after a good stir, it was good to go.

Do you like my free plant pot? My big Agave had some babies and I thought they would look cool in these Pizza Express giant tomato tins. I just asked for them after a meal one night, and they were more than happy to let me have a few. They're also good for storing garden accoutrement in the greenhouse.

The top view of the tables show my free downloaded images, covered with several layers of decoupage glue. And lastly here are my bird feeders made from vintage cups and saucers. What's on your 'must get done before the Summer goes' project list?

  1. I have a very long list but I wish I could put 'make some vintage teacup bird feeders' on the top!
    Gorgeous!

  6. Love everything you've done, Jean but the bird feeders are my favourite.

  7. I've been doing up our youngest (not living here at the moment) son's room and found myself doing the oddest thing - scrubbing a yellow police cone with Cif! As a naughty teenager he sometimes acquired this sort of thing and now I just don't know how to dispose of it without being arrested! So, I cleaned it.

  8. What a clever idea with the vintage tea cups - I have seen something similar in an ' outdoor space' shop and they cost a fortune.

  10. Some really great ideas Jean - I am finding it too hot and muggy to do much in the way of doing things up, it is taking me all of my time just to keep on top of the jobs in the house and garden. Come the cooler weather and I do intend to paint a screen that I have with some Annie Sloan chalk paint - quick and easy to use.

  11. Your wild birds are really lucky :) I've been looking in the local chazzas for some bedside tables to do up, it would be cheaper to buy new! I think they have cottoned on to the up cycling trend.

I have been working on a picnic quilt made out of old trousers for the summer, I think it may be next summer before it gets done! xx

  12. Hi Jean, I love the giant tomato tins (what a great idea!) and your side tables are really pretty.
My must do job is to tackle the snake that’s taken up residence in the back garden! I think it’s a grass snake but every time I get near enough to see it makes a really loud hissing sound, and I find myself rushing for the back door and turning the key once I’m inside. Have a good weekend. Barbara x

  13. Don't think I could bring myself to leave my vintage cups and saucers outside even so, yours do look very pretty. And those little tables look fantastic!
