It's a Kinda Magic

That's what it feels like growing your own veg. Our first year of eating home grown herbs, salad  and veg feels like a little miracle.

Experimenting with new recipes and different ways of cooking has added a new dimension to our usual meal planning.

The three faces of beetroot. Doesn't look great in it's raw state but once turned in some olive oil and a little home grown Thyme is sensational. Of course at the moment it's courgette with just about everything but actually I'm not bored with them. The generosity of other bloggers sharing their recipes and tips is an absolute godsend for me and helps tremendously in keeping meals thrifty and delicious.

I have been very inspired by Sue and her approach to life. Simple pleasures and making the most of what you have and also freeing yourself up from the things you no longer need.

The last few strawberries from our freegled plants

Some sweet peas from the garden

We hope to build on what we have learnt this year and to grow even more next year.

  1. Happy harvesting! I found a recipe for chocolate cake with beetroot in it, and one for carrot and courgette loaf - haven't tried the former yet but the latter turned out delish!

    1. Hi Alison, Funny you should mention chocolate cake with beetroot I'm planning to make it at the weekend with the addition of raspberries. I saw James Strawbridge (Hungry Sailors)make one the other day and it looked fantastic. I think the beetroot chocolate combo will work really well.

  2. I love going into the garden and picking something for the evening meal - it just feels good. Let some of your courgettes become marrows and then make my delicious Lemon Marrow Curd it is yummy.

  3. I am very jealous! I used to grow all sorts of stuff on our "back plot". Then my rather thoughtless neighbour planted a leylandii hedge around his and I can only grow herbs in my desert-like plot! Thankfully I have two other pieces of garden where I grow flowers, but they don't get much sun.
