Funeral Today
This afternoon, following the funeral of the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, the gardens at Chatsworth will be open to all for a celebration of her life.
Everybody is welcome to attend the service this morning. It's a shame I couldn't make it up to Derbyshire today but I know she will have a massive turnout of people paying their respects.
She was a great lady.

ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting woman
ReplyDeleteI love that photo too. May she rest in peace x
ReplyDeleteYes! Great lady...Worked hard all her life!
ReplyDeleteWatched some of the funeral on Sky....
One thing though has bothered me....Can't
seem to find out any where....Who gets custody
of the chickens...!!!
Willie, I don't know who gets custody, but I think one thing is certain ..... There will NOT be a chicken in everyone's pot for Sunday dinner.
ReplyDeleteI suspect her chooks will be moved up to the Chatsworth farm, unless the new tenant at her lovely old vicarage wants to keep them on.

I'm learning new Brit-speak all the time. I presume "chooks" is your term for chickens? :-)
DeleteHeHe! Now! Look! Let's get things straight here...!
DeleteChook is Aussie slang for a chicken...
Morgan: I got run over by a bus yesterday.
Ted: Oh! Yeah! What happened?
Morgan: I was standing in the middle of the road.
Ted: Ha! Ya! bloody chook! :>).
Thanks, Willie. Not fully acquainted with the differences between the Brits and the Aussies ...... Forgive me, please. :-)
DeleteShe will be a real loss. Great picture of her standing erect and capable but not afraid to get hands on with the chookies! Sad loss for more than just the family.
ReplyDeleteHello, and thanks for leaving a comment. Yes,it is a great pic of her,she was a no nonsense type of woman, and had been keeping chooks since she was seven.
