For the last few years I haven't really felt like dressing the house up for Christmas. My great friend who passed away in 2020 would start decorating her cosy cottage in November. She adored everything about the season and her sweet enthusiasm was infectious. We haven't hosted over the last few years either which also makes me feel less like 'going to town' with dressing the house.
But this year I have planned a few things. Starting with this home made large bow and decorations for my sitting room mirror, which I'm rather pleased with. The little lights are gold metal mistletoe and filigree leaves, they add a lovely golden hue, without being over the top.
Awww....your festive touches are lovely! The bow and lights on the mirror are especially beautiful. (To me, white lights bring the magic of the holiday!) Your little pies look wonderful! I'm not sure "mince" and "mincemeat" pies are one and the same but the latter was one of my father's favorites (which my mother generally only made for Thanksgiving). Of course hers were the beautiful little individual ones. And I don't know what a sausage roll is, but it sounds good to me! Carry on my friend, carry on. Still packing away Halloween over here in Nod.
ReplyDeleteHi, the mince pies contain dried fruits in various proportions. This filling also contained whiskey and tangarine orange. Delicious. Sausage rolls are simply, sausage meat encased in pastry. All my pastry was home made and the sausage rolls had herbs and onions added. Cracking with a snifter.
DeleteAll going good here ....so far...but I don't expect it to last! Loving your preparations - the baking paper strip under the mince pies a good idea...presuming it is to stop them sticking in the tin?
ReplyDeleteI saw this tip recently. I made some of the pies to freeze uncooked, for when the season gets busier. You put the greaseproof paper under the little pies then freeze them for about 15 minutes or so in the tin. Then you can lift them out without damage and put them in a freezer container and they wont stick to each other or get damaged.
DeleteIt looks and sounds that you are getting nicely organised.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how quickly the year has gone and we welcome December on Monday!
I have started putting a few decorations up and writing some cards too.
Wishing you happy December days.
All the best Jan
Thank you jan, you too.
DeleteI can almost smell those mince pies, and that little mouse is adorable! I'm not really in the Christmas spirit yet, this year, but will need to make an effort for Lily's sake. Maybe once I hang up the advent stockings...X
ReplyDeleteFinding your Christmas spirit will come at the right time for you and all the better for it.
DeleteIt will happen when you start to feel the season.
ReplyDeleteWe're not hosting, but are still looking forward to some us-time during my week off between Christmas and New Year!
ReplyDeleteI'm not in any kind of Christmas spirit yet, but I'm sure it will happen any day now :-)
Well done on getting a teeny bit organised. The little chap enjoying some Christmas pudding is adorable! xxx
Glad you have a week off to look forward to, I think you really need it.
DeleteWe won't be doing any hosting this year as our usual visitors now have two tiny grandchildren to visit and babysit for. So it will be a quiet Christmas for us. But my Christmas tree and all the decorations are up, and it's looking beautifully festive here. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds lovely Sue.
